Web accessibility
By law, public sector bodies have to ensure their websites and apps are accessible to people with disabilities.
The law sets out a standard of accessibility. It’s called the WCAG 2.1 AA standard. Everything that plain.ie builds will not only meet these requirements but far exceed them – future-proofing your site for years to come.
We build websites that are not only accessible on the front-end (the website your user sees) but on the back-end too. This means that the site works for staff who have additional needs.
Our previous work on gov.ie was praised by the National Disability Authority (NDA). The NDA is carrying out accessibility audits on an increasing number of public sector websites in Ireland.
One of the other areas we focus on when it comes to accessibility is plain English. The reason for that is simple. The clearer your information is, the easier it is for all users.
According to the National Adult Literacy Agency (NALA), 1 in 6 adults in Ireland have difficulty reading even the most basic written information. A quarter of adults have difficulties with basic maths.
We recognise these realities and help design your site around those user needs too.
